The summer Wilbur first shows up, Bajan wins another Hunger Games out in the Nexus. Techno misses it, because he and Phil have to stay in the village inn as a result of the madman that's decided to take residence in their chimney.
As it turns out, the intruder’s name is Wilbur, and he’s eight. Phil pries this out of him with a stern look and a hand on his shoulder somewhere around the fourth or fifth time he invades their house.
“Everyone needs food and water, shelter, security, respect, and self-activisation,” the kid explains, ticking off the items importantly on his fingers.
“Self-actualization,” Phil corrects, not unkindly. Behind him, Techno rubs his eyes.
“Self-actualization,” Wilbur repeats, testing out the word in his mouth. “Huh. Anyway, I need those things, but I don’t have the wherewithal to get them. That’s why I had to take a few of 'em from you. Make sense?"
Phil’s eyebrows climb higher. “Wherewithal’s an awful big word.”
Wilbur shrugs. “I steal books, too.”

Summary
In a post-apocalyptic future of dimensions and worlds plagued by monstrosities and mutations, the dwindling population of humanity has adapted and evolved but this is not without consequence.
Dream, a godling, has made so many sacrifices for his power that he's found himself with nothing left to lose. It is then that he turns to Tommy in an attempt to twist the boy into something like his own image. The only one aware of the abuse is a young forgetful halfbreed who has no chance should he choose to stand against Dream - but that doesn't stop Ranboo. People matter and Tommy is one of the best humans he's ever met.
Philza, an ancient survivor gifted with divine rights, refuses to let another one of his boys get twisted by the masked monster and will fight with all his life to keep him safe.
Technoblade just wants a nice retirement, but apparently, that's too much to ask for.Meanwhile, below the earth, a cluster of vines spreads its influence as two friends struggle to contain it.
The world just really has gone to shit, hasn't it?

Dream was a creative person.
Spry, quick-thinking and strong, sure, but creativity was the platform all of that rested on. Speed and strength were nothing when tied to predictability.
And Dream was the furthest thing from predictable.
The thing about experimentation was that success was extraordinarily rare. Even ideas that seemed reasonable were nearly impossible to put into practice without guidelines, a recipe written by thousands of much older souls, all kind enough to share their discoveries. With so many facets of knowledge, it was a wonder how anyone knew where to start.
A potion? A redstone mechanism?
An enchantment.
