Summary
When Tomioka goes on a mission and doesn't come back for a week, nobody thinks much of it. Especially Sanemi.
Hell, he's even excited that he doesn't have to see the smug bastard for a while.But when Rengoku comes back from a mission with a bloody and unconscious Tomioka, Sanemi realizes that everything is not okay and there is a demon that has to be murdered pronto.
Shinobu feels the same.
Alternative Summary
Tomioka was like a puzzle that Sanemi just couldn't seem to solve. No matter what he did there was always a piece missing and everytime Sanemi tried to find it, it just moved further away. It frustrated Sanemi to no ends. What was it that made Tomioka the way he is? It's not like Sanemi can just ask him. Not like he would, even of he was here. Sanemi would die before he asked Tomioka for something.

“This is a nice spot.” Giyuu holds a stack of papers in his remaining arm, looking at Sanemi for confirmation.
The two men stand before an old, aged house, nestled on the top of a mountain between a break in the forest. The grass has grown up almost to the porch, holes dot the tiled roof, and the paper doors are moth-eaten and ridden with gaps. It’s decrepit, forgotten and neglected― but it is a house, a place they could make their own.
“Don’t decide so damn quickly,” Sanemi huffs out, “We still need to check the inside. There’s only so much restoration our dumbasses can handle.” The scarred man starts towards the front door of the house, gesturing for Giyuu to follow.
The door nearly slides off its hinges as Sanemi pulls it open, and Giyuu has to bite his lip to resist laughing at Sanemi’s surprised face. “A bit rough around the edges,” Giyuu moves deeper into the home, dragging his finger through the dust on the counter and creating a divide between clean and dusty. “What do they call this situation? A fixer-upper?”
“This will need a fucking miracle to become even a fixer-upper.”

“Believe it or not I can see the gas gauge.” Tomioka Sanemi bites out, already unbuckling. “The fact that we’re not moving anymore is also a bit of a giveaway.” He didn’t mean to snap at the other man, but his nerves were heightened with stress. Sanemi cast a glance at the teens sleeping in the back seats, two in the row behind Sanemi and three in the very back. They had not awoken when the car stopped, and for that the man was thankful.
Tomioka Giyuu unclenches his hands from the vice grip he had on the steering wheel, “Does your phone have any service?” The man pulled out his own device, “Mine doesn’t.”
“If yours doesn’t, what makes you think mine will?”

Sanemi opens the door, his backpack hanging off one shoulder and his face morphing into surprise when he spots Giyuu already waiting at the door. “Hey, babe, I𑁋”
“Where were you all day?” The cat scurries away as Giyuu taps his foot, hearing annoyance in his voice.
“Work.”
“Are you an idiot? We work at the same school,” Giyuu snorts loudly, throwing a hand up in the air.
Sanemi chuckles, and the cat can hear the awkwardness in his voice, “Shit, that’s right, I’m a bit out of it.” He pulls his jacket off, and the cat notices Giyuu looking over the other’s bare skin, for what she does not know.
Giyuu stands with his hands on his hips, seemingly waiting for an answer from Sanemi.
The cat takes the moment to bound over to Sanemi, meowing sweetly when the man picks her up. “Anyway, why are you getting so damn defensive? Don’t you fucking trust me?” His voice has the same tone Giyuu’s had when he was waiting, the cat notices, both so full of love, yet there’s an undertone of fear within the sounds.

Giyuu couldn’t remember who had told him that, couldn’t remember who’s voice he clung to when his control slipped away like sand through open fingers. It was a man’s voice, a low sound that grated on his ears, but one who offered light in his darkest moments.
Was it Urokodaki? No, he had never been very vocal during one of Giyuu’s attacks, unsure and only offering a solid foundation for Giyuu to cling to as the throes of desperation took over his mind.
Sabito? It couldn’t be, for Giyuu was never Tomioka to Sabito. No, he was Giyuu or Songbird. He was darling and my love, sweet one and little fox. He was every pet name Sabito could come with, never Tomioka.
Oh. It had been Sanemi.
